Here’s yet an other installment from our recent walk around Peaks Island. On the east side of the island, there is a place where travelers are welcome to add to a rock garden. There are many carefully balanced rock towers. It was very peaceful.

Peaks Island photo walk with Megan and Papa John
Today, we walked the about 4 miles around the edge of Peaks Island. It was a really beautiful walk, and I’ve got a few posts worth of pics. It was great, as always to spend the day with Megan and John, and walk side-by-side with them. We had a great left-over picnic with amazing views.

Bug Light Park
Mr. John Jackson, aka Papa John, road into to town this week. Today I took the day off so that Megan and I could give him a lighthouse tour. Here are a few photos.

Tall Ships in Casco Bay
I caught some of the tall ship parade on Saturday. The day was overcast and hazy. The waves were choppy. And boy was Spring Point crowded. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Westbrook Strong 5K
Today I completed the Westbrook Strong 5K. It was my first 5K and during training, my top time was 34 minutes. I finished the real deal in just over 30 minutes! It was a lot of fun, even though it was down pouring. And of course it supports a great cause.

A hot day on Peaks Island
Yesterday, Megan and I set sail for Peak’s Island for an audition. It was scorching hot, with temps in the mid 90’s. We walked about a mile down to the North end of the island. It was the first I’d seen that part of Peak’s, and it is really lovely. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera so I couldn’t snap any pics. The good news is that we got into the play, and I’ll be able to go back for a photo walk. Here are a few quick ones I snapped with my phone.

The Things We Save
Sorting through the old boxes of the stuff we save, I inhale dust and emotions. Here are a few of interesting gems.
This was a decoration from my dad’s 40th birthday in 1991.
I once worked as a photographer / photo salesman who solicited folks to stop for portraits on top of mountains.

Independence Day, Monadnock, and Rain
Happy 4th! We climbed up Mt. Monadnock in the rain today, then we slid down most of the mountain on our asses.
Our Route
New comers to Mt. Monadnock may be tempted to ascend via the popular White Dot trail. If you are a more experienced hiker, I suggest you to seek out alternative, quieter roots. Checkout how we did it:
We started on the Parker Trail
At 0.6 miles in we forked onto the Lost Farm Trail
After 1.1 miles, the Lost Farm merges with Cliff Walk
After about a half mile, Cliff Walk brings you to bald rock, and merges on Smith Connecting
An other half mile brings you to the Amphitheater Trail.
A short jaunt later you merge with the White Arrow trail.
After a steep, grueling half-mile up the White Arrow, you hit the summit. Approximately 3 miles total.
On the way down, we took the White Dot trail, which was a slippery 2 miles.Fun Pics
