This one may drive your friends and family crazy:

I’ve posted about my friends the black squirrels, and told you about our vacation – now here are some more shots that show that I’m proficient at clicking buttons in Photoshop. In other words, here are my attempts at being a capital-p-photographer. I use a Nikon 1 J3. It is a nice vacation camera, not too bulky and easy to tote around extra lenses. Though the focus controls are clunky, and there is no optical view finder, only digital. Anyway, enjoy the shots!

Here is a quick photo log detailing our vacation to Toronto.

On our recent trip to Toronto, I was ecstatic to encounter some beautiful black squirrels. I’m sharing these photos mostly for the benefit of my Southern Maine folks who, like me, grew up around only grey squirrels. Enjoy the snaps!
If you are curious about the United States refugee screening process, here’s a short, one-minute video from The Huffington Post that describes the process. Thanks Heather M. for sharing.
Ever since the attacks on Paris, I’ve been suffering from a bit of anxiety. The best way I can describe it is a dark spot bubbling just under the surface of my daily life. I try not to talk about it much, because I’ve got my life to live, my daily chores to chore, and I don’t need anything else adding to the stress.
But I find myself compulsive going to Facebook to see what people are talking about, and I’m realizing now, it’s because your voices help calm me. The stories you share, regardless of if I agree with their opinions, help me breath information. I need it to survive. Thanks for sharing!
Humanity is facing one of the most complex enemies it has ever faced with ISIS. I’m saddened to see so much finger pointing. Keep those fingers aimed at the real enemy. I’m saddened to see knee jerk reactions to, as Trump says, “Bomb them all”. If only it were that simple. I’m saddened that so many of us are so scared that we are considering turning our backs on the refugees. That’s ridiculous. We’ve been accepting thousands of refugees since 9/11. Let’s keep business as usual.
The best thing we can do is breath information. Let’s learn more about what’s happening in the Middle East, in Europe, and in Africa. Let’s step outside of our usual political comfort zone and see things in a different light. Let’s stick together, and not fight amongst ourselves, and learn, learn, learn.

In the last installment from our Peaks Island photo walk, let’s look at three lighthouses.

Here’s yet an other installment from our recent walk around Peaks Island. On the east side of the island, there is a place where travelers are welcome to add to a rock garden. There are many carefully balanced rock towers. It was very peaceful.

Here’s a third installment from our Peaks Island photo walk this past weekend in which we look at some buildings and homes on the Portland area coastline.

Today, we walked the about 4 miles around the edge of Peaks Island. It was a really beautiful walk, and I’ve got a few posts worth of pics. It was great, as always to spend the day with Megan and John, and walk side-by-side with them. We had a great left-over picnic with amazing views.

Mr. John Jackson, aka Papa John, road into to town this week. Today I took the day off so that Megan and I could give him a lighthouse tour. Here are a few photos.

I caught some of the tall ship parade on Saturday. The day was overcast and hazy. The waves were choppy. And boy was Spring Point crowded. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Today I completed the Westbrook Strong 5K. It was my first 5K and during training, my top time was 34 minutes. I finished the real deal in just over 30 minutes! It was a lot of fun, even though it was down pouring. And of course it supports a great cause.

A nice long read from a colleague about his process of rebuilding VideoPress.
